Training at Richmond on Sunday 12th June 2011
Ten oars and the cox Peter Booth met in Richmond for the first outing of the year. James Hyson, Jade Tso and Georgi Mitchell were all abroad, so Wil Walker kindly stepped in to help along with First Reserve Charlie Summerfield. The day was somewhat rainy, but everyone remained cheerful and pleasantly cool. The learning curve was steep. It was boat new to all with much heavier oars than last year. Five rowers were novices to the art but everyone showed great willingness and determination. By the time the Naiads reached Teddington an observer would have seen the Sheila Lewis come alongside the jetty of the Anglers in a smart and seamanlike fashion. After an enjoyable lunch and a couple of training pints each, the Naiads returned down the river with great style and co-ordination. It was a good start that set the scene for the challenges ahead.
